Just east of Rogers Ave. and south of Old Frederick Rd. in the 2nd District of Howard Co. is a Gosnell family burying ground. On a hill behind an old farmhouse, the plot is badly overgrown with briar and brush; the tombstones were recorded with difficulty and some
may not have been found because of the dense growth. The farm, known as ‘Yates Contrivance*, in 1833 was purchased from Jeremiah Jones by Jesse Gosnell and stayed in that family for 96 years before being divided and sold. The old farmhouse of log and clapboard with fieldstone chimney still stands on the property which is presently owned by Mr. & Mrs. August Sunnell.
Recorded 1960, Gen. Rec. Com. Col. Thos Dorsey Chap., D.A.R.
