This 2-hour class provides instruction on how to determine the proper administrative hierarchy for locations, which significantly impacts knowing where to look for the elusive records, how a location tree can help provide clues on your parts of your family, how many people were present in the same location at the same time, and how little errors can throw your searches off.  The class includes demonstrations of how to build your tree hierarchy in either Family Tree Maker or RootsMagic and will conclude with a fun game of Gravestone Locations, where you will need to provide the correct administrative location for the missing part of the Gravestone

Ancestry Pro Tools  (New Classes)

This 2-hour class provides instructions on how to use Ancestry's new Pro Tools, outlining their benefits and demonstrating how to improve your trees, queries, and results at Ancestry.  Students will learn new query and display techniques, and will complete exercises identifying potential errors and query results.

Basic Spreadsheet Benefits  (New Classes)

This 2-hour class provides instruction on how to use spreadsheets when conducting genealogical research, outlining simple tools such as timelines, color coding, filters, sorting, and grouping, to help you with your genealogical research.  Students will need access to a spreadsheet tool, such as Excel, Google Sheets, or LibreCalc to complete the supplied exercises.

Beginning AI  (New Classes)
Virtual via Zoom
This 2-hour class provides instruction on how to use AI tools for genealogy, showing you the benefits and outlining the potential problems. The majority of the class will cover the impacts of "prompt engineering", covering the formats you should follow to get good responses and how they can help you with your genealogical research.  Students will sign up for free accounts at ChatGPT and Claude, using those tools to generate some queries and reports.

Surname Tables  (New Classes)

This 2-hour class provides instruction on how to set up a Surname Table, covering its many benefits, and providing you with a single quick guide to help you focus on your genealogical research.  Students will construct their own Surname table into a supplied spreadsheet, complete with the formulas to alphabetize and list surnames by ahnentafel numbers.

Beginning DNA  (New Classes)

This 2-hour class provides instruction on DNA kits, what you get from those kits, how they will vary from company to company and all be correct, and how you can use the kits for your genealogical research.  The class will walk you through some simple exercises of how to apply DNA to solving brick walls in your family tree.
