Howard County (Maryland) Genealogical Society
Howard County
Genealogical Society
Helping you discover your family history
We are a non-profit organization providing education and support to people in the study of family history and the preservation and collection of genealogical records, and assisting local libraries in developing their genealogical collections.

If you are interested in the fellowship of others who share your interest in family history, the Society will provide you with the proper climate. In addition to monthly meetings, there are many opportunities to encourage your participation — committees, special interest groups, seminars, etc.  Through these, you can get to know other members and provide a service to the Society as a whole.

Meetings

Meetings are free and open to the public. Meetings begin with a time for members and guests to network with meeting attendees and to browse through publications for sale, newsletters from other local genealogical organizations, or materials brought by members.  Members often have things to share: a research gold nugget discovery, an interesting ancestor, or something to show-and-tell.   A short business meeting follows. Programs usually consist of a presentation of helpful research concepts, topics of genealogical interest, or historical information to supplement members’ research. Guests are always welcome.

We meet all months except July and August on the second Wednesday of each month.  Meetings are being held virtually via Zoom during the pandemic.  Meetings begin at 7 PM and begin with announcements, a short business meeting,  member sharing time, and are followed by a program with a speaker.  Members are sent Zoom meeting ID information by email prior to the meeting or may find it in the Members Only section of this website.  Guests may obtain the ID information following the instructions for the individual event on the Events page.
